Bogor Botanical Garden (Kebun Raya Bogor)


Bogor Botanical Garden (Kebun Raya Bogor), is one of the million beautiful tourism objects in Indonesia that you have to visit. Kebun Raya Bogor is a huge botanical garden with at least about 15,000 collection of tree's and plants on the 87 hectare of field. Kebun Raya Bogor on its story has a few name, that are:
  • s'Lands Plantentuin
  • Syokubutzuer (zaman Pendudukan Jepang)
  • Botanical Garden of Buitenzorg
  • Botanical Garden of Indonesia
  • Kebun Gede
  • Kebun Jodoh  
Since years 1817 until now, those who became the Director of Kebun Raya Bogor, are shown below:
  • 1817-1822 : Caspar Georg Karl Reinwardt (1773-1854).
  • 1823-1826 : Carl Ludwig Blume (1789-1862).
  • 1830-1869 : Johannes Elias Teijsmann (1808-1882).
  • 1869-1880 : Rudolph Herman Christiaan Carel Scheffer (1844-1880).
  • 1880-1905 : Melchior Treub (1851-1910).
  • 1905-1918 : Jacob Christiaan Koningsberger
  • 1918-1932 : W.M. Docters van Leeuwen (1880-1960).
  • 1932-1943 : Hermann Ernst Wolff von Wülfing (1891-1945).
  • 1943-1945 : Nakai Takenoshin (1882-1952).
  • 1948-1951 : Dirk Fok van Slooten (1891-1953).

One of the interesting object in Kebun Raya Bogor is Bunga Bangkai, or known as Amorphophalus titanum.

From Bogor Botanical Garden official website, we can get a lot of information we need. One of that, is about the ticket prices. Ticket Start from January 1st 2008, ticket for Bogor Botanic Gardens including Zoology Museum:
  • Visitor: IDR 9 500/ person
  • Car/ 4 wheeler: IDR 15 000
  • Motorcycle Parking: IDR 2500

The price has included insurance and contribution for Bogor municipality according to the governmental decree PP No. 75 2007 on December 10th 2007. For pupils and students, 50 % discount is available by sending acknowledgment letter one day prior to visit.

In order to match the collection with its original microhabitat, Bogor Botanical Gardens established several branches, including:

  1. Cibodas Botanical Gardens (Bergtuin te Cibodas, Hortus and Laboratorium Cibodas) in West Java, 120 ha on 14000 m of altitude, established by Teysman in 1866, for species adapted to alpine range and humid tropics and sub-tropics. In 1891 this garden was equipped with flora and fauna laboratories.
  2. Purwodadi Botanical Gardens (Hortus Purwodadi) in East Java, established by van Slooten in 1941, 85 ha on 250 m of altitude, for species adapted to low altitude, and tropical dry climate
  3. "Eka Karya" Bedugul- Bali Botanical Gardens, established in 1959 by Prof. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo, 159.4 ha on 1400 m altitude, for species adapted to dry alpine range.
